Fire breaks out on Bodmin Moor as another burns on Dartmoor

Callers have told us smoke from the blaze was seen billowing across the A30 at Temple on Friday morning (12th February)

Just hours after a massive fire broke out on Dartmoor, another has been reported on a moor near Bodmin.

The blaze at Millpool on Cardinham Moor started just before 11.30pm on Thursday.

Callers told us smoke was blowing across the A30 at Temple on Friday morning.

Carl Brightman shared this video on Twitter just before 1.30am, saying the fire engines woke him up.

First thing on Friday morning (12th February), Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service confirmed two areas of gorse were alight at Cardinham Moor.

"We are aware of two areas of gorse which are currently still burning on Cardinham Moor near Bodmin.

"@BodminCFRS have been in attendance all night to monitor from a distance.

"Another crew from Bodmin will reattend the fire ground in the daylight to reassess".

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service

"Calls were received at 23:18 alerting Critical Control of a large gorse fire.

"Resources from Wadebridge, Lostwithiel, Bodmin, Delabole, St Columb, and St Dennis attended and were greeted with a 3 mile front of high grass and gorse on fire.

"One appliance from Bodmin remains in the area at this time".

Crews from across Devon are continuing to battle the blaze on Dartmoor, which was so big it could be seen from Cornwall.
