Flood alert issued for Cornish coastlines

They're in force along both the north and south coasts of the Duchy.

Coasts across Cornwall are on flood watch as the Environment Agency issues a flood alert.

The Environment Agency has issued alerts across the Duchy from Lizard Point to Hartland Point.

The flood alerts have been issued for:

  • Lizard Point to Gribbin Head excluding Truro City.
  • Lands End to Lizard Point including Mousehole, Newlyn, Penzance, Longrock, Marazion, and Praa Sands.
  • Rame Head to Plymouth including tidal estuaries.
  • Gribbin Head to Rame Head.
  • The Rumps to Hartland Point excluding Bude.
  • Tidal River Camel excluding Wadebridge and Chapel Amble.
  • Chapel Porth to The Rumps excluding the tidal River Camel.
  • Lands End to Chapel Porth including Sennen, St Ives, Carbis Bay, Lelant, Portreath and Porthtowan.

For the south of Cornwall, flooding is possible over all high tides from early on Saturday morning (14 November) to Sunday's afternoon tide (15 November).

"Force 6 to 7 south westerly winds and offshore wave heights exceeding 4m are forecast to coincide with high spring tides. This may cause spray and wave overtopping, and minor flooding of quayside and low-lying land in certain locations

"Saturday’s high tides at Falmouth are 04:00 and 16:25, and Sunday at 04:47 and 17:12. These times vary for other locations along the coast.

"Peak tide levels may be 350mm higher than published. Flooding is possible 2 hours either side of high tide

"Locations which may be affected include St Mawes and Mevagissey."

For coastlines along the North of the Duchy, flooding is possible over all high tides from tomorrow afternoon (Saturday 14 November) to Monday 15 November early evening tide.

"Force 7 south westerly winds and offshore wave heights exceeding 3m are forecast to coincide high spring tides of 2020.

"This may cause spray and wave overtopping, and minor flooding of quaysides and low-lying land in certain locations.

"High tides at Bude are Saturday at 16:42, and on Sunday at 05:07 and 17:28. These times vary for other locations along the coast.

"Peak tide levels may be 350mm higher than published Locations which may be affected include Port Quinn, Port Isaac, Port Gaverne, Flexbury, Widemouth Bay, Trebarwith Strand and Boscastle People are advised to stay away from risk areas and take care next to the coast.

"During Sunday, Force 8 west north westerly winds, and 6.5m offshore waves are forecast. Tides peak on Sunday evening."
