Detectives appeal to find van driver following a reported rape in Launceston

Police investigating a report of a rape in Launceston have issued an appeal to find the driver of a white van driver, who could be a potential witness.

Officers say a woman in her 40s was approached by two unknown men in an alleyway, before being attacked.

The incident happened in the Madford Lane area in the early hours of Sunday 30th January.

Both suspects are said to have been wearing tracksuit bottoms and hooded tops.

Now detectives believe the driver of a van seen travelling along Tower Street at the time may be able to help with enquiries.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact Devon and Cornwall Police via 101, quoting crime reference CR/008565/22.

In a statement, the force said: "Police investigating a report of rape in Launceston have issued an appeal to find a potential witness who was driving a white van in the area.

"A woman aged in her 40s was approached by two unknown men in Madford Lane and attacked in a nearby alleyway between 12.25am and 1.05am Sunday 30 January.

"Detectives would now like to find the driver of a white van seen travelling along Tower Street at 12.55am as they may be able to help with enquiries.

"The victim is being supported by specialist officers.

"Both suspects were said to be wearing tracksuit bottoms.

"One of the men wore a white hooded top and the other a dark-coloured hooded top.

"Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101, or email 101@dc.police.uk, quoting crime reference CR/008565/22".
