George Floyd: Memorial event in Truro one year since his death

A memorial event is being held in Truro exactly a year since the murder of George Floyd.

His death led to one of the biggest mass protest movements in American history

Now Black Voices Cornwall is remembering him and also recognising the changes that have started to be made since.

The Black Voices Cornwall 'George Floyd Memorial Day' is being held on Lemon Quay at 6pm this evening (Tuesday 25th May).

Spokesperson Marcus Alleyne tells us there needs to be more awareness and education.

"We need to have a better understanding of cultural diversity and ethnic diversity. We need to embrace and celebrate the richness that comes with an eclectic diversity.

"We need to look at how we are educating our young people and our children

"We also need to start being more tolerant to each other, we need to start being actively anti-racist and calling out prejudice and bias when we see it and when we hear it, whether that be at home or in the work place or in our social surroundings, so there is still a lot to do."
