Thousands of beacons are being lit across the country to mark the beginning of the Jubilee weekend and celebrate the Queen's 70 year reign, including in Cornwall.

More than 1,500 beacons will be lit in all 54 Commonwealth capitals to honour our monarch, as a long-held tradition usually taking place to celebrate Royal Jubilees, Weddings and Coronations.

Over 80 events and street parties will take place across the Duchy over the next four days.

They include a parade in Truro on Thursday 2nd June and Big Lunches on Sunday 5th June.

Truro's town crier will be among hundreds reading the same proclamation at 2pm, marking the start of the beacon lighting celebrations.

In many celebrations there will be a rendition of pipe song Diu Regnare and a bugle call, along with refreshments served before hand.

The lightings will then happen at beacons across Cornwall at 9.45pm, along with the Song for the Commonwealth.
