Man dies after 'tree falls onto boat' in Cornwall

Police say the incident is being treated as a tragic accident

A man has died after a tree fell onto what is believed to be a house boat in Cornwall.

Police, firefighters, paramedics and the coastguard were all called to the scene near Falmouth at around 5.40pm on Saturday evening.

Devon and Cornwall Police have now confirmed that a man has tragically died after the incident in Flushing.

The Force Incident Manager has told us that the man's family has been told and an investigation is being carried out.

"We understand that this incident is a tragic accident, where a tree has fallen and sadly a man has died.

"Our understanding from the initial circumstances is that a tree fell onto a house boat.

"It is a tragic incident and it is not being treated as suspicious in any way.

"An investigation is underway and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

The coastguard says the man was onboard a boat at Sailors Creek.

"At 5.30pm on 2nd January, HM Coastguard received a report of an incident involving one person onboard a vessel at Sailors Creek, Flushing, Falmouth.

"Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team and Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat were sent and assisted in a multi-agency response, in which Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service extracted and recovered the person from the vessel.

"The casualty was then passed into the care of the South Western Ambulance Service at the scene for immediate medical attention. Devon and Cornwall Police were also in attendance at this incident."
