Police have confirmed a man has died following an incident on the main rail line in Cornwall.

Emergency services were called to reports of a person being hit by a train near Carlyon Bay.

Paramedics were also called but, tragically, the casualty was pronounced dead at the scene.

It happened just before 5pm on Monday (21st March), closing the line between Penzance and Plymouth.

In a statement on Tuesday, British Transport Police confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious.

They said: "Officers were called to the line near Carlyon Bay at 4.49pm yesterday (21 March) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended and sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner".
