Man remanded in custody after incident involving police officer in Newquay

The officer suffered serious burns

A man has been remanded in custody following an incident in Newquay which left a police officer with serious burns.

Emergency services were called to Trevenson Road in the town on Friday morning.

The officer remains in Derriford Hospital in a stable condition, and is said to be sat up and in good spirits.

Blagovest Hadjigueorguiev, 30, of no fixed address, has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life and causing grievous bodily harm GBH with intent against a police officer.

He is further charged with attempted GBH with intent against a second police officer who was uninjured.

He appeared before Truro Magistrates Court on Saturday 12th September.

He has been remanded in custody and is now due before Truro Crown Court on 13th October.
