Now, new alerts have come into place as the Met Office put out a yellow weather warning for heavy rain across the county between 8pm on Friday (29th January) and 8pm on Saturday (30th January.

A warning has gone out to residents in the area urging them to 'be prepared'.

What flood alerts are in force in Cornwall?

  • Upper River Tamar - affecting Bude, Helebridge, Bridgerule, Canworthy Water, Launceston and Yeolmbridge
  • South Cornwall Coast from Lizard Point to Gribbin Head excluding Truro City.
  • West Cornwall Rivers - affecting Lands End, Penzance, Helston, Crowlas, St Ives, Hayle, Camborne, Portreath and Perranporth.
  • River Lynher - affecting Rame Peninsula, Callington, Saltash, Rilla Mill, Pillaton and Landrake

"Flooding is possible over the next four days from Saturday 30 January through to Tuesday 2nd February. Flood alert thresholds will primarily be exceeded during the morning tides.

"Times of high tide at Falmouth for each successive morning tide are 06:09, 06:48, 07:27 and 08:10. Times of high water will vary along the coast.

"High spring tides will combine with large offshore waves in excess of 2 metres, together with Force 6 to occasionally Force 7 easterly winds.

"This may cause localised wave overtopping of defences and quaysides and spray in exposed coastal areas. Peak water levels may be up to 300mm higher than published tides.

"Locations at risk include Portmellon and Mevagissey.

"Catchments are wet and river levels in the upper Tamar area are expected to stay high and respond quickly.

"Rain is forecast from 9pm this evening, with some heavy showers likely overnight.

"Flooding is possible to low lying land and roads close to the river. Take care near the areas of concern and monitor local conditions."
