A woman from Cornwall who was told she had multiple blood clots on her lungs, just days after her baby was born, has described her desperation to hug her own mum.

Erika from St Austell gave birth to little Astrid 11 weeks ago.

She was terrified she would not get to see her daughter grow up.

The tot has not even met her grandparents, because of coronavirus.

But the roadmap out of lockdown means all that could change by May.

Erika has described her emotional wait for the whole family to be together, especially after being very poorly when Astrid was born.

"They're just desperate to hug"

"They're just beaming with love but they're just desperate to hug. We're a huggy family - we like our hugs.

"They've not seen her grow out of her first little baby grows and they've not had her little hands wrapped round their fingers - they've not had the baby puke over their shoulder.

"In the afternoon, holding my three-day old baby, they told me that I had multiple bilateral blood clots in both of my lungs.

"My response was I wanted to see my daughter grow up. It's been very hard.

"It's been a very hard time but I was lucky I was in hospital - I was in the right place".
