A major incident was declared last night after a large fire at a property in Newquay. Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service initially sent two fire crews to the incident on St Thomas Street at just before 10pm last night, but it was quickly escalated.

At its height, crews from six fire stations were at the scene, including a specialist aerial ladder platform.

Some firefighters remain at the scene this morning, and residents are being advised to keep their windows closed to prevent smoke from getting inside.

Cornwall Fire & Rescue have confirmed that a join investigation with the police will take place later today.
