People across Cornwall have been sharing photos online of the Northern Lights.

Spectacular shades of green and red were seen in the county's skies overnight.

The display is caused by particles from the sun carried on solar winds interacting with the Earth's atmosphere.

The Northern Lights were spotted a number of times in Cornwall last year.

The Met Office say Northern Lights - also known as aurora borealis - appear as large areas of colour, including pale green, pink, shades of red, yellow, blue and violet in the direction due north.
