Police rule out suspicion following house fire in Penzance

Police are not treating the death of a woman in a house fire in Penzance as suspicious.

Police were called to a house in Heamoor in the north west of the town in the early hours of Monday morning (June 19th), after being contacted by the Fire Service.

Emergency services arrived at the scene just before 5am to find the house in flames. Despite their best efforts, a woman who was in the house was pronounced dead at the scene.

The house, a bungalow in a housing estate, is now currently boarded up. The windows of the house have been blackened due to smoke damage.

A spokesman from Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were contacted by the Fire Service in relation to a fire and the death of a person at a property in Heamoor on Monday 19 June.

“A women in her 70’s was declared deceased at the scene and next of kin have been informed.

“Police attended and undertook enquiries at the scene, following this officers are satisfied that this death is not a suspicious matter. A file is to be prepared for the coroner.”
