Officials figures show the number of coronavirus cases in Cornwall increased by 1,282 over the weekend and one more death was recorded.

A total of 48,998 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in Cornwall when the UK coronavirus daily dashboard was updated on October 11th (Monday), up from 47,716 on Friday.

Latest weekly figures show the Duchy recorded 2,751 new cases in the seven days to last Wednesday, giving us a case rate of 478 per 100,000 people. That is a rise on figures from this time last week, when the case rate was 417.9.

In parts of the Camborne, Pool and Redruth, the current case rate is almost double the figure for Cornwall, at 920.5 in Pool and Illogan Highway.

Wadebridge and Lostwithiel and Penwithick are also high, at 904.8 and 861.0 respectively.

Cornwall Council's Public Health Team has warned people that Covid has not gone away and residents and visitors are being urged to remain vigilant.

There was also one more coronavirus death recorded over the weekend in Cornwall.

The dashboard shows 539 people had died in the area by October 11 (Monday) – up from 538 on Friday.

It means there have been three deaths in the past week, which is a decrease on seven the previous week.

They were among 7,434 deaths recorded across the South West.

The figures include anyone who died within 28 days of a positive test result for Covid-19, and whose usual residence was in Cornwall.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

Figures reported on a Monday are likely to be lower as a result of a lag in reporting deaths over the weekend.

The figures also show that more than three-quarters of people in Cornwall have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.

The latest figures show 413,680 people had received both jabs by October 10th (Sunday) - 78% of those aged 12 and over, based on the number of people on the National Immunisation Management Service database.

Across England, 78% of people aged 12 and above had received a second dose of the jab.

Unlike at local level, the national rate was calculated using mid-2020 population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.
