The last ever Hellebore Day fundraiser is taking place in Truro on Saturday.

The annual event, which has been held at Bosvigo House since 2005, raises money for the Cornwall-based disaster relief charity ShelterBox.

Hellebore Day has been organised by Wendy Perry, who showcases the winter flowers she has grown.

The event is in memory of her daughter Hannah, who was killed in Khao Lak, Thailand, in the Boxing Day tsunami in 2004.

Speaking to Pirate FM, Wendy said she was getting too old to continue running the event each year.

She also revealed she'd raised over £40,000 for ShelterBox.

"We are proud of that, and we think it's been put to good use," she said.

"Out of tragedy has grown something which we hope has benefitted other people."

Wendy recalled her shock when she heard the news of Hannah's death.

"I wanted to do something in her memory, and I've been hybridising these beautiful plants," she said.

"It seemed a good idea to combine the two with raising money."

Wendy said she hoped Hellebore Day has "raised awareness of Shelterbox" to those visiting.

"I hope they will remember my garden, and take back a memory in the form of a hellebore."
