Young man injured and taken to hospital after serious assault in Newquay

Police say he was punched to the floor and kicked in Central Square

A young man has suffered injuries to his head and face after a serious assault in Newquay.

Police say the victim, who is in his 20s was punched, knocked to the floor and kicked.

It happened in the early hours of Sunday 22nd May after an altercation outside a takeaway in Central Square.

The casualty was taken to hospital and Devon & Cornwall Police have issued an appeal.

Anyone who saw the incident between 2.45am and 2.55am is being urged to contact officers.

In a statement, the force said: "Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault on a man in Newquay in the early hours of Sunday (22nd May).

"A man was standing outside a takeaway in Central Square when he was approached by another man and an altercation broke out between them.

"The victim, a man in his 20s from Truro, was punched in the face and knocked to the floor before being kicked a number of times.

"He sustained head and facial injuries and was taken to hospital.

"Police are investigating the incident, which happened between 2.45am and 2.55am, and appealing for witnesses.

"Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to email 101@dc.police.uk or call 101, quoting crime reference CR/043810/22".
