Coventry will celebrate 'Amazing Women' in the final months of its term as the UK City of Culture.

The details were revealed by the Coventry City of Culture Trust as the organisation published its spring programme.

Women will be highlighted as part of a one-month exhibition called 'Friend or Foe' from Coventry-based Laura Nyuhuye, which will show the resilience of women.

The exhibition will take place throughout March, in time for International Women's Day and Women's History Month to celebrate the importance of women across the world.

As well as this, an immersive sound and light instillation reflecting communities seeking sanctuary named 'Where Is the Light' will take up residence in Coventry Cathedral.

To round things off, the popular Assembly Festival Garden will also be making a return, after drawing tens of thousands of people to the event space. The full programme will be released later this month.

Speaking about the spring programme, Creative Director of Coventry City of Culture Trust, Chenine Bhathena spoke of her joy to welcome people to the city.

“Our penultimate programme features incredible internationally recognised talent from our city, new creativity from young citizens, amazing women, events that speak of hope and optimism for our future, as well as the stories of those that have sought sanctuary in the city. Hearing the many voices of citizens from our city is a great way to get to know the people that make Coventry so distinctive as a city of many cultures," she said.

“And, taking its cue from the most amazing of women, Delia Derbyshire, we are thrilled to be celebrating all things innovative in our music city, with CVX Festival in February, Deliaphonic in March and the New Music Biennial in April.

“As we move into the second half of our UK City of Culture year, we look forward to welcoming audiences from across the city and the nation to visit Coventry.”
