Dangerous Coventry driver jailed

He'll be behind bars for over a year.

A Coventry man has been jailed for dangerous driving in Warwickshire.

45-year-old David Roddie from Bridgeacre Gardens, Coventry, was sentenced to 66 weeks imprisonment and banned from driving for 50 months after pleading guilty to Dangerous Driving on the A46 near Ansty on 15 October last year.

He must pass an extended driving test of competence before his ban is lifted.

He was also sentenced to 12 weeks imprisonment for Driving whilst disqualified, 10 weeks in prison for Failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis and 30 weeks imprisonment for Aggravated vehicle taking and vehicle damage (under £5000), all to run concurrently.

He must also pay a £187 victim surcharge and his driving record will be endorsed.

Roddie came to the attention of officers back in October when he was driving a red Ford Fiesta that had a tampered number plate.

He failed to do so, driving into a marked police car twice causing minor damage to both vehicles. Officers followed the vehicle as Roddie forced his way through traffic, undertaking, speeding, crossing red lights and damaging a VW Golf driven by a member of the public.

He appeared to pull over, however manoeuvred and drove off again.
