Bedworth man jailed for assault and having knife in public place
He'll be behind bars for 44 weeks in total.
A Bedworth man has been jailed for 44 weeks for possessing a knife in a public place, common assault, and criminal damage.
44-year-old Wayne Morrison will also have to pay a £187 victim's surcharge.
On 27 May 2023 at around 2am, Morrison was captured on CCTV concealing a knife in his trousers before walking across a supermarket car park on George Street Ringway in Bedworth.
He was stopped by officers in Margaret Avenue, who discovered a large knife that had been discarded nearby. Morrison was subsequently arrested.
Six months later, on 6 November, officers responded to a call from a pub on Stratford Street in Nuneaton.
The call came in at 9:37pm reported a man smashing the windows with the pub furniture and throwing a bottle at a member of staff.
The man in question, Morrison, had been challenged by members of staff for drinking his own alcohol inside the pub, and was asked to leave.
After his removal from the premises, Morrison became violent and smashed the glass in the front door with a chair.
At 9:41pm, Morrison was arrested by officers a short distance away.
Morrison was sentenced on 6 February at Warwick Crown Court.
PC Halfacree said “Morrison’s intentions with the knife he hid on his person don’t bear thinking about – we’re thankful we got to him before anything happened.
“There is no good reason to have a knife in public, and it only makes the world more dangerous for everyone, including the person who takes it out with them.”
Inspector Price said “Getting violent with bar staff who are just trying to do their job and look after their patrons is such a needless thing to do."
