A 13 year old's been banned from football matches over reports of verbal abuse at Carlisle United and Port Vale's League One match on New Year's Day.

Police have confirmed they've identified a suspect as they look into chats Port Vale goalkeeper Connor Ripley received on Monday 1st January.

He described what was said to him at Brunton Park as 'disgusting'.

Carlisle United apologised for what happened and described it as 'totally unacceptable'.

The club have been working on an investigation with Cumbria Police in the days since.

Officers say their enquiries into what happened are continuing.
