As part of the new Cumbria Ride Safe programme, the fire service is partnering with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), Cumbria Police and BEEP Doctors Cumbria for the sessions that are held at Penrith Fire Station and Ulverston Blue Light Hub.

The sessions will cover advanced riding, first aid, and scene safety at a collision.

A RoSPA delegate will then take each of the participants out on a ride to observe their capability and suggest improvements for safer riding.

Andrew Lowes from Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: "We think this is going to make a real difference for safety in Cumbria and around the country generally for bikers.

"As the nice weather kicks in obviously a lot of people like to get out on their bikes. Motorcycles are 1 per cent of the road users, but it's estimated in 2023 that 20 per cent of our road fatalities were from the biker community.

"What we want to do is encourage them, improve their rider skills, adopt safer habits and educate on how to respond effectively if there is an incident.

"The sessions will cover advanced riding, first aid, and scene safety at a collision."
