Details of the Proclamation in Cumbria revealed
The ceremony will first take place in Carlisle on Sunday
Following the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, we can now confirm details of the Proclamation of the new sovereign.
The Proclamation will be made at St. James’s Palace tomorrow (Saturday 10 September) at 11am, then at the Royal Exchange in the City of London at 12noon. The following day (Sunday 11 September) the Proclamation will be made in Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast before being cascaded to County, City, Borough and Parish Level.
The High Sheriff of Cumbria, Mr Alan McViety will make the proclamation outside The Courts, on English Street in Carlisle very shortly after 12 noon on Sunday 11 September where the public are invited to attend. A proclamation will then be made in each district, residents and guests of Cumbria are advised to visit the Cumbria County Council website or their district council website for further details of these.
Timings for the County Proclamation are as follows:
1150hrs - County dignitaries will make their way to outside The Courts, English Street
Shortly after 12 noon -
• Bugler plays a fanfare
• HM Lord-Lieutenant to offer words of introduction
• The High Sheriff reads the Proclamation of the Accession
• At the end of the Proclamation
o High Sheriff: God save the King
o Official Guests repeat: God save the King
o All present join in saying: God save the King
• Band to play one verse of the national anthem
• High Sheriff to call for three cheers for His Majesty the King
• High Sheriff to hand copies of the Proclamation to District Mayor/Chairmen
• Bugler plays a fanfare
12:20hrs (approx.) - Dignitaries process, led by The Lord-Lieutenant, High Sheriff and Mayor of Carlisle to the Market Cross where the Carlisle City Proclamation will be made by the City Mayor.
The Proclamations will be followed by a service at Carlisle Cathedral.
A number of flags located around the county will be flown at half-mast until 8am on the day following the State Funeral, except from at 11am on Saturday 10 September until 1pm on Sunday 11 September while the Proclamation of the new King is made.
