Foodbanks across Cumbria are bracing themselves to have to support even more families over the next week or so.

It's as many are expected to struggle to afford basic essentials - like extra food - which would normally be provided for free by schools - with half term starting today.

Stephanie Hulmes from The Carlisle Foodbank says every donation will help them cope with demand: "We are still seeing a lot of new families. A lot of families with three, four and five and more children at the moment.

"Every tin really does count and does help your community.

"We are always in need of extra support and extra donations. Every little helps, it really does.

"We did actually see a decrease in clients last week with families receiving the final cost of living payment, which was a huge help to so many people in our area.

"However we are in need of donations such as tinned meat, pasta sauce, tins of tomatoes and tins of vegetables."
