A man who subjected two men to an unprovoked attack has been jailed for seven years and eight months.

Lee Walker, 33, of no fixed address, was today ( March 28 ) sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court for Section 18 wounding with intent, two counts of possessing a bladed article in a public place and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The court heard that in January, in Cleator Moor, Walker started to shout at two men before following them and attempting to punch one of the men.

A number of punches were exchanged before Walker fell to the ground, making threats to the two men before they left.

Walker entered his own address before returning outside to cause damage to one of the victim's vehicle.

As the man became aware Walker was damaging his car, Walker jumped out from an alley running alongside the property, assaulting him to the stomach. The other man came to his defence.

The man noticed blood coming from his stomach, realising Walker had stabbed him - and ran to a neighbouring property.

Walker remained on the street shouting, before going into his address and returning with two knives, walking up and down the street.

Officers attended minutes later and located Walker outside his front door holding two knives.

They shouted at him to drop the weapons. Officers tasered Walker for his and the officers' safety before arresting him.

Detective Constable Debi Gilmour said:

“Walker carried out an unprovoked attack on the victims, which was fortunate to not have been more serious given the use of a knife.

“The use of a knife has the potential to end in tragedy, and there is no justification for taking a knife onto the street and the police and courts take such an act extremely seriously.”
