Cargo ship runs aground in Silloth

The ship has been refloated since the incident on Saturday

A cargo ship has run aground in Silloth.

The incident, involving the Molasses transporter Zapadnyy, occurred on Saturday near to the town's port.

It was refloated as the tide receded later that evening.

An Associated British Ports spokesperson said:

"We can confirm that the vessel Zapadnyy ran aground during Saturday's midday tide.

"There are no injuries reported. The vessel was successfully refloated and returned to port.

"It is now alongside at the Port of Silloth and ABP staff are undertaking assessments of any impact."
