Police charge man with murder of Lazarus Makono in Barnsley

The 26-year-old was fatally injured in the early hours of Wednesday

South Yorkshire Police have charged a man in connection with the murder of Lazarus Makono in Barnsley.

27-year-old Terrance Mlotshwa, from Ripley Avenue in Derby, was charged with Lazarus' murder on Saturday (February 24th).

Officers were first called to a property on Cooperative Street in Barnsley in the early hours of Wednesday morning (February 21st) among reports of a stabbing.

When responders arrived at the scene just after 1:20a.m., officers discovered 26-year-old Lazarus - who had suffered serious stabbing injuries.

Emergency services were called to the scene to help with his injuries, but sadly Lazarus was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the incident, police launched a murder investigation as they tried to piece together the events leading up to the attack.

Since the investigation was initiated, five arrests in connection to Makono's murder have been made, including two women and two other men, with one of the men currently remaining in police custody.

Mlotshwa will remain in police custody and will appear in Sheffield Magistrates' Court in connection with the incident on Monday (February 26th).

However, the force are still urging the public to get in touch if they have any potentially relevant information regarding the attack.
