Derbyshire Police say the death of Sheffield United women's Maddy Cusack is not being treated as suspicious.

The 27-year-old died last Wednesday and tributes were paid to her before yesterday's Premier League match between United and Newcastle.

A statement from the club said Cusack's death will forever leave "a void".

Derbyshire Police say they were called to a property in Lady Lea Road, Horsley, just after 6.35pm on Wednesday 20 September.

A woman, in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her family are aware and are being supported by specialist officers.

Her death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

Tributes have been coming in from across the sport in reaction to her passing.

Chief Executive Officer of Sheffield United, Stephen Bettis, called the news 'heartbreaking'.

He released a statement on the club's Twitter, reading:

"Maddy had a unique position of being part of a number of teams at Sheffield United and was popular with everyone that she came into contact with. Her personality and professionalism made her a credit to her family - she will be sadly missed. Whilst taking in the news and moving forward, the Club will offer as much support as possible to Maddy's family, friends and colleagues."
