Derbyshire campaign group remain sceptical over government proposals to help keep women safe

We're being told Government plans to curb street harassment and protect women in North Derbyshire and the rest of the country 'don't go far enough'.

Under the new plans a 24/7 hotline will be set up to support people who've been victims of sexual assault.

Sonya Robotham is from the 'End violence against women and girls coalition' in Derbyshire.

She says more action is needed:

"Some women don't have access to phones, some women have no credit on their phone. What are they supposed to do when the abuser has hidden their phone or prevented them from having communication?

"A phone line isn't going to help those women.

"I'd like to see harsher sentencing and a more robust system. It simply isn't good enough when statues and monuments are offered better protection than women."
