A Derbyshire woman is organising a club night for people with special needs and disabilities.

The Hideout in Derby is hosting a "nightclub experience" for people with special needs and disabilities.

The first "Hideout Big Social" will take place on Monday the 9th of October.

It will include a DJ, karaoke and a raffle. Organiser Lisa Varty explained her inspiration for the event: "About a month ago, my brother, who has special educational needs... He was feeling a little bored, and a little bit isolated. He doesn't really feel safe socialising in the city, so I asked him if we should set something up, and he said yes!"

Lisa who has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, TBI and fibromyalgia said they've had a good response so far: "We was quite surprised and quite happy and we didn't realise this was something a lot of people in Derby and Derbyshire actually wanted.

"There's still a lot of issues in a normal night club. People tend to get drunk and rowdy... They might say something abusive, and it can get loud.

"This is just a safe space for people to feel comfortable."

Lisa hopes it'll inspire other clubs: "It's really quite accessible, its level access throughout. They do have table service for those that cant get to the bar, or for those who might feel anxious about actually going to a bar. They have the accessible toilet. It would be nice to see more places that are that accessible across the UK".

Lisa is still hoping to recruit more volunteers and floor support for the night!
