The woman in charge of policing across Devon and Cornwall is calling for driving fines to be levelled up.

Our Police and Crime Commissioner says penalties for stuff like speeding, using your mobile and not wearing a seatbelt are all different.

Alison Hernandez thinks bringing them in line would allow more money to be spent on road safety.

Giving evidence on the controversial Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, she flagged up a recent survey on road safety.

Over 66,000 people responded to the survery, that found people were witnessing offending behaviour around 70% of the time.

"It's all different. Whether you're speeding, you're using your mobile phone, not wearing a seatbelt - the fines are all at different levels.

"Our suggestion that we'd like to see is why don't you level-up the fines and then you've actually got an opportunity to spend more funding on road safety".
