Several fire crews from north and central Devon worked late into the night at a flat fire in South Molton.

Three appliances from Barnstaple and Witheridge initially attended following reports of a microwave on fire, but upon arrival the property was well alight, and further assistance was requested.

Two further fire appliances from South Molton and Combe Martin arrived together with a command support unit from Ilfracombe, and two more officers to assist with incident support.

Shortly after entering the property concerned crews confirmed the fire had spread to the loft space of an adjacent flat and firefighting was increased to a total of six breathing apparatus, three hose reel jets, two safety jets and a thermal imaging camera.

Attendance was once again increased after 6pm to assist with fighting the blaze.

The incident was still ongoing at 10.45pm on Monday 19th July.

One male casualty sustained injuries and was taken to hospital.
