Fire on Dartmoor is so big - you can see it from Cornwall

The blaze near Tavy Cleave, north of Tavistock has lit up the sky an eerie orange and can be seen for miles and miles.

A fire that has broken out on Dartmoor is so big, it can be seen from across the border in Cornwall.

The blaze is tearing through an area near Tavy Cleave, north of Tavistock.

People have been sharing photos on social media, showing the sky lit up an eerie orange colour.

People from Plymouth, Saltash and across to Launceston have tweeted to say they can see the flames.

Sarah shared the above photo, posting: "Must be a huge fire on Dartmoor if you can see it this clearly from Saltash".

Rob posted: "Saw the fire on Dartmoor and I'm in Launceston. That's 12+ miles away as the crow flies".

Flames could be seen for miles from Dartmoor

Professional photographer and photojournalist, Benjamin Lawley, has shared these images from Dartmoor.

He says firefighters from across Devon are at the scene of the blaze, currently being fuelled by strong winds.

"Currently on Dartmoor where a large fire continues to rage with strong winds making it difficult to control. Fire Fighters from across the county are at the scene".

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service have tweeted to confirm the location of the fire, and is asking people to avoid the area.

"We're currently tackling a large moorland fire near Tavy Cleave, north of Tavistock. Please avoid the area".
