Woman dies following collision near Beaminster

A second woman's in a critical condition, and a boy's suffered serious injuries

A woman in her 40s has died in hospital after being involved in a collision near Beaminster.

She was walking along the A3066 Main Road in Mosterton at around 8.13pm last night (Wednesday 8th February) with two other pedestrians, when they were struck by a blue Mercedes.

The car was then involved in a fire.

All three pedestrians were airlifted to hospital, with one woman passing away there this afternoon (Thursday 9th February).

A woman in her 20s remains in a critical condition, while a young boy suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Officers carried out searches in the area after the crash, as the driver left the scene.

A 40 year old man from Yeovil was located and arrested on suspicion of driving offences.

He was also taken to hospital for treatments to some injuries not thought to be serious.

Police Sergeant Mark Scammell, of the traffic unit, said:

“Our thoughts remain with the loved ones of the woman who sadly died and the injured pedestrians.

“An investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of the incident and I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed what happened, as well as anyone who may have captured the collision or moments leading up to it on dashcam footage, to please come forward.

“I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the road closure is in place as this allows us to carry out a thorough examination of the scene.”
