Fire service receives more than 140 calls about latest blaze at Canford Heath

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue received more than 140, 999 calls yesterday about a fire at Canford Heath in Poole.

50 firefighters and 8 fire engines were dispatched.

1.5 acres of heathland was affected.

A spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said:

"We sent eight fire engines, three small 4x4 appliances, a Unimog, a water carrier and a support unit – approx. 50 firefighters.

"The fire affected an area of approx. 1.5 acres and was surrounded by 4.30pm, with firefighters using six main jets, five hose reel jets and beaters to bring it under control.

"The stop came in at 5.14pm, and we were away from the scene by 7pm. Canford Heath Road was closed at the height of the incident but was reopened by 6pm.

"We believe the fire to have started due to some form of human intervention, but the intent is unknown."
