A geotechnical team is assessing a large sink hole that has appeared on the A35 as drivers are being diverted.

Those heading westbound on the A35 are being diverted via Bere Regis Roundabout at the A31, south to Wool, before taking the A352 back to the A35, following the solid triangle diversion.

What happened?

Part of the A35 Puddletown Bypass remains shut today for emergency repairs.

Highways England were sent out yesterday to repair a pot hole, it later re-emerged as a sink hole.

The road's closed westbound between Troytown (near the A354, Puddletown and the B3150 (Stinsford).

It's thought it will stay closed for the rest of the day.

A statement on the Highways England today said: "We are currently carrying out geotechnical investigations into the cause of the surface defect on the westbound carriageway section of the Tolpuddle by-pass.

"The road will remain closed until further notice. We apologise for the inconvenience and advise motorists to plan ahead and allow a little extra time for their journeys."
