A kiosk that has sat on Brunswick Terrace for 16 years has had it's sign removed, marking the end of an era.

Over 1,600 Resident's stood firmly against the move not to renew the lease for Aunty Vi's café.

But now the sign has been replaced with another that read's 'The Beach Café'.

Weymouth Town Council's decision has been described as a way for the town council to generate some income for itself, and plans could be realised as early as next week.

A statement from Weymouth Town Council said:

"Following the end of the previous tenant's lease, we purchased the kiosk building from them (although the council owns the land).

"We are now redecorating the kiosk and repairing the decking to eliminate any trip hazards. We will then fit out with new coffee and ice cream machines and offer a range of cakes and toasted sandwiches to start off with.

"We aim to start serving from the kiosk, which will now be called the Beach Café, from next week (exact day to be confirmed) and open up the decking for sit down food and drink within two weeks.

"As with our Prom Café, we aim to serve locally-sourced produce and make use of local suppliers. We will also be hoping to engage with the government's Kickstart scheme and offer training and experience for local young people."
