UPDATED: Bomb squad called to Blandford after possible explosive device found

A bomb disposal squad were called to Blandford yesterday a possible explosive device was found in a ricer.

North Dorset Police say the discover was made by people fishing near West Street in Blandford just after 1pm in the afternoon.

A 100-meter cordon was put in place and drivers were urged to avoid the area.

The object turned out to be harmless.

A spokesman for North Dorset Police said:

" The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team attended the location and assessed the item, which was found to be nothing suspicious and not an ordnance device.

"The cordon was lifted at around 4.40pm."
