A Bournemouth University student has developed a wellbeing app designed to help military veterans struggling with their mental health.

The “Ur Back Up” app connects army personnel with mental health charities.

Savannah Thompson, who created the app, says many veterans find it difficult to reach out for help over the phone. She hopes the app will help those who have feelings of isolation and depression.

After being medically discharged from the army in 2021, Savannah heard about people needing support and not knowing where to go which started her journey with creating “Ur Back Up”.

She said that when joining the military, you’re supported with months of training to make you “fit in”, but the unspoken challenge that needs more support is adjusting back to civilian life.

She added, “You don’t have that several months of transitioning back to being a civilian”.
