There are fresh calls to stop HGV's using Dorchester's High East and High West Street as a cut through, due to concerns over pollution.

Manager of Dorchester BID, Neil Strudwick, says lorries should be using the bypass.

Neil says lorries cause extra pollution and could cause unnecessary damage to local historical landmarks:

"I'm just worried about the pollution and the impact these big lorries going through are having on the heritage of the site.

"You've got the museum there, you've got Shire Hall, you've got other fragile buildings. We want to protect the town really.

"There's no reason for them to come up High West Street when they can use the bypass.

Neil even says long term he'd like to see the area pedestrianised:

"Like we've done in South Street. South Street businesses have seen a massive improvement.

It's a much better environment for shopping up there, for businesses and the public. Whether that happens one day for High West Street, I don't know - but it'd just be nice."
