Did you ever wonder if Weymouth in Massachusetts has any connection to Weymouth in Dorset?

Well it does.

In 1635 The Little Ship sailed from Weymouth taking migrant travellers across the pond, who renamed their new town Weymouth.

Singer-songwriter John West is putting on a special charity concert at Weymouth Pavilion on Monday (13 June) which will tell us all about it.

John told Greatest Hits Radio Dorset:

"A ship sailed out from Weymouth sailed out in 1635 with 100 plus people on it. They re-established the town and named in Weymouth."

"What I am trying to do is tell a story. The story of the people on the ship. what happened to them and what happened when they arrived. It's a great story. A story of endeavour. It's a story of perseverance."

Proceeds from the concert are going to the Jubilee Sailing Trust and the Tudor House Museum in Weymouth.

Trusting the the Waves is on at Weymouth Pavilion on Monday 13 June.
