A dog's been rescued from a river in Dorset.

The English Bull Terrier became trapped in thick undergrowth in the River Char.

Unable to get the dog free, the owner called the coastguard.

Officers from West Bay and Lyme Regis were dispatched to the scene.

A spokesman for West Bay Coastguard Rescue Team said:

"Due to the dense undergrowth and steep bank, an Officer wearing water rescue equipment waded across the river from the opposite side to gain access to the dog.

"She was safely recovered and returned into the care of her thankful owner.

"Take care on the coast this winter, but If you find yourself in difficulty, or if you see something that gives you cause for concern, do not hesitate."
