A taxi driver's been assaulted in Dorchester, after picking up a fare on Christmas Day.

The victim, in his 40s, was attacked by a man after collecting from an address in Cambridge Road, at around 6.30pm that night.

The suspect made off in the direction of Dorchester town centre afterwards.

The driver was taken to hospital with facial injuries.

A 21 year old man from Weymouth has since been arrested in connection with the incident, and released on bail.

There's now an appeal for any witnesses to contact police.

PC Mia-Isabella Bowditch, of Weymouth police, said:

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area at this time and has information about what happened to please come forward.

“Furthermore, I would ask any residents of the area to please review the recordings on their doorbell cameras or home CCTV systems to see if they have captured anything of relevance that can help us with our enquiries.”

The incident also follows a similar assault in Weymouth, against a taxi driver, also on Christmas Day.

If you can help with any information, you're asked to call Dorset Police on 101, quoting reference number 55230201319.

You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
