Dorset drone pilot named in Yahoo's top 10 women under 30
Dorchester's Gemma Alcock's been recognised as a young entrepreneur to watch
A drone pilot from Dorchester’s been named one of Yahoo Finance’s top 10 female entrepreneurs under 30 for 2021.
Gemma Alcock is the founder of Skybound Rescuer, a company that specialises in using drones for public safety and researchers how they can be used by emergency services.
Gemma told Greatest Hits Radio Dorset:
“The fact that at such a young age, I’m only 28, I’ve done and achieved a lot in my sector that is filled with older men, I think has made me stand out to other women and encourage other women into this industry as well, which is an incredible thing.”
She had this advice for other young women aspiring to take up a career in a similar field:
“Entering an industry that is filled with a lot of men, you as a woman will be instantly underestimated by a lot of people, not by everyone, but by more people than you should.
“Other people’s underestimations of you will only hold you back if you start to believe them. It’s not your gender that defines your capabilities. It’s your approach, your motivation, your passion. That’s what causes success.”
