Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue is holding its first ever Christmas Trails this year.

They're aimed to giving families a chance to explore their local area, while social distancing, and teach children about fire safety at the same time.

Firefighters have got shops and businesses involved in the idea in places including Charminster, Beaminster, Bere Regis, Wimborne and Sherborne.

Posters like this one will be put up in shops taking part in the trails in Pewsey, Amesbury and Tisbury

Education Coordinator Yasmine Ellis said:

"Thank you to the local businesses and organisations who have kindly agreed to support our Christmas Trail. In the areas where the Trail is running, shops and organisations are displaying Christmas posters with a safety message and hidden letter. Spotting the hidden letter, the children can then work out the answer to the secret safety message and then enter our prize draw to win a Playmobil fire vehicle."

You can enter the competition as part of the trail online through the DWFRS website.

That's where you can also download a form that you can post or email back to the Fire Brigade.

The closing date is Monday 4th January.

Firefighters in Beaminster are among those taking part in the trail

DWFRS is asking us to follow a few Covid-secure rules while taking part in the trails, including:

  • Please only walk around in your family bubble
  • Please only go into the shops if you want to buy something and adults should wear a mask as required
  • Wash your hands or use hand sanitiser regularly
  • Stay at least 1m apart from others not in your bubble

The Fire Service has also put together other festive activities for children to get involved with this Christmas:

There's more on the DWFRS website about Christmas safety too.
