Could drones replace firework displays on Weymouth seafront?

The idea is being considered by the town council as a way of being more environmentally friendly

We're used to watching fireworks over Weymouth Bay in the summer, but how would you feel about watching a display of drones?

That's one idea the town council is looking at.

They're considering the future of fireworks displays in Weymouth and the possibility of more environmentally friendly alternatives.

Other alternatives include lighting events, with projections onto buildings or small scale entertainment along the seafront.

However initial research shows that costs for these types of events are likely to be far higher than the current costs of having fireworks.

The council recently carried out a survey to gauge people's views on the seafront fireworks.

129 people responded with 68% of respondents having visited the display on Bonfire night.

47% have the display a 5 star rating, saying they very much enjoyed it.

The future of Weymouth's firework displays will be discussed by the town council this Wednesday. (1 Dec)
