A family of four, including two children, have been rescued from a house in Weymouth.

Fire crews were called to Seven Acres Road in Preston just after 1:30am this morning (Saturday 26 August).

One woman had to be rescued after having difficulties escaping the three-storey property.

Three others, including the two children, had already escaped the property by the time crews arrived.

Crews were unable to rescue one of the family's two dogs, however.

20 firefighters from stations in Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester attended the fire, which they believe was started accidentally.

They used six sets of breathing apparatus and three hoses to extinguish the fire.

Station Manager Dan Joslin, who attended the incident said their response "another great example of how our teams work together."

"Fire Control staff were able to provide fire survival guidance to the female within the property and use the information she provided to direct firefighters straight to her when they arrived," Mr Joslin said.

"Firefighters rescued the occupier from a window and then entered the property, they were able to contain the fire to the kitchen."

Mr Joslin also thanked Dorset Police and South West Ambulance Service for their support.

All four family members were taken to hospital for checks by South Western Ambulance Service crews.

Fire crews are returning to the house to reinspect the scene, and provide home safety advice to nearby properties.
