Part of Admiralty Hotel on Portland to be turned into flats

Four flats are to be created on the first and second floors of a Portland hotel.
Dorset Council has agreed the conversion at the Admiralty Hotel in West Way, Southwell business park.
The agreement is, effectively, a renewal of a planning permission first granted in 2018 but which expired because work did not start during the three-year period laid out in the conditions.
Three of the flats will be two-bed and the other three-bed.
The building was known as the Maritime Hotel when the original application for the flats was granted.
Portland Town Council’s comment to Dorset Council during the consultation made the point that in the Neighbourhood Plan the site is designated for employment use, although a Dorset Council planning case officer points out that other flat conversions have been allowed in the area in recent years, recognising the difficulty of converting some buildings to suitable workspaces.
