A road on Portland had to be closed yesterday (Friday 3rd May) due to a 'high-volume gas escape'.

Hamm Beach Road had been damaged by a third party, according to SGN and engineers investigated what happened.

The Lidl store nearby was within the cordon and had to close.

Katie Lobban, SGN spokesperson said:

"We are on site in Hamm Beach Road, Portland, attending a high-volume gas escape.

"The road will remain closed as our team of engineers carry out investigation and begin repairs to our gas main which was damaged by a third party.

"We’d like to apologise for the disruption this is causing to the local community.

Repairs were completed late last night with all shops open this morning as usual.
