Police say a home in the Crossways area, near Dorchester has been left 'unrecognisable' after being ransacked.

The property in has been broken into several times last month, while the owners were away.

Walls were left covered in graffiti and the TV screen was smashed.

Some of the items taken included a yellow log splitter, a chainsaw and a 40-50cm silver-plated punchbowl engraved with reference to Hampstead Parish Church.

A spokesperson for Dorchester Police said:

"From talking to other residents in the area, it would appear that the house was visited by groups of youths on numerous occasions, however the theft of the large log splitter could suggest that adults may also have been involved.

"The inside of the home was left unrecognisable throughout due to items being displaced, walls graffitied, empty alcohol bottles, broken glasses and tv screen smashed.

"This was distressing for the homeowners, as all their personal items had been accessed, including items in the loft.
