Man charged after serious assault in Weymouth

The victim remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital

A man has been charged in connection with an assault in Weymouth that's left another man in a serious condition.

Dorset Police received a report at 11.09am on Sunday (11 February) from the ambulance service of a man requiring medical treatment at an address in Lennox Street.

It was reported that the victim – a local man aged in his 60s – had been assaulted and sustained a serious head injury. He was taken to hospital by air ambulance for treatment and remains in a serious but stable condition.

Following enquiries, a man aged in his 40s from Weymouth who is known to the victim was arrested and has now been charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm. He is due to appear at Poole Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 14 February 2024.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and a cordon remains in place at the address where it occurred.

They are appealing for anyone who heard or saw any suspicious activity in the vicinity between around 12am and 1.30am on Sunday 11 February 2024 to come forward.
